I have no plans to swap the stock stamped steel rockers back in. I like the mod for reduced friction, stonger, more acurate ratios, and possibly some more mid-upper power with the increased lift.

The only thing I recall was that my engine seemed to rev easier, and it seemed to coast longer/easier (while in gear.) I *want* to believe I picked up some mid-upper power but I certainly can't confirm. 05 a little faster.Īs far as "real world" performance. You can argue that the increased ratio will give you a touch more valve duration, since the faster ramp rate may get the valve to. Duration is much more critical for P/V clearance - and usually more-so on the exhaust side. There's only a small window of opportunity where the piston can contact the valves, and that does not happen at max valve lift. Use this method to make sure you don't exceed your spring bind point.īut remember that the increased lift will just about have no affect on P/V clearance because of the cam (P/V) timing. To see what the 1.7s give you, divide the lift by 1.6 and then multiply by 1.7. For example, my '86 5.0's stock cam lift is. Your cam card will tell you how much lift it provides with a stock rocker. All in all it is a good upgrade.you may not "feel" anything in the butt but its nice peace of mind to know things are right.especially if you are going to spin the engine tight at all. If you don't have screw in studs I would say forget about them.if you do I would recommed you to get ARP studs.check out their site for info about the 7/16" studs they make. Valve cover clearance most likely will be a problem as well.will need taller covers. Also check for spring bind as mentioned above.and for piston clearance because the valve will be opening more. If it is you may need different length pushrods. I think the spec is that it should not be closer to the edge of the valve tip than. You need to make sure the roller end is in the middle of the valve when the valve is completely open. The stock rockers can be off due to the ball and socket arrangement. My take is that they keep the rocker in perfect 90 degree alignment with the valve stem.that can be an issue with the stamped steel rockers.
